Still thinking about it…

Long time, no post.  Then again, I haven’t done much more than a lot of research on http://www.cnczone.com.  I have updated my design, and bought two Vexta PK266 motors.

CNC Design progress

cnc11Well, after many hours of fun and frustration with , I think I have a decent design worked out.  Much of it is borrowed shamelessly from http://www.buildyourcnc.com.  I’ve also shared the document via , if anyone is interested in having it. Read the rest of this entry »

Oooh! New shiny!

Well, found a new “hobby”…  I want to build my own router! Read the rest of this entry »

Still painting…

Actually, I did a bit. I got a full 10-man tac squad basecoated and washed (I’m still debating highlights, as I think they look pretty good now). Next is basing and details (squad designations, chapter logo, etc.). Looking pretty good so far. At least, better than some armies I’ve seen brought to GW stores…

‘Tis the season…

to not get any hobby time in.

With Christmas shopping, sporadic family health, and a wicked cold snap, it doesn’t look like I’ll get a lot of Space Marines painted up any time soon.  Read the rest of this entry »

Schemas are fun!

32 tables and still more to go.  It’s amazing how much discrete data needs to be stored for an e-Commerce app…

I mean seriously, you have the products, the suppliers, the various options for the products, the users, the shopping cart, the orders, it goes on and on! I’m hoping to slide Transfer into the mix without disturbing my micro-managing, OCD-living, gotta grok and control it all management team. I think it’ll be OK once I get it done and working.

Resuming pigmentation…

Well, I recently finished constructing a 10 man tactical squad, undercoated it in a grey gesso mixture, and base coated it in Mechrite Red and Deneb Stone. I’ve already gone back and added Chaos Black to the models where there will be metal. This is considerably slower than the base coating… :) Read the rest of this entry »

The Evolution of a Wargamer

I’ve been interested in games most of my life. Usually as a way to escape the mundane and boring reality around me. Now, at 40, I find out it was also probably due to Asperger’s Syndrome. Oh, joy!

Anyway, due to a number of factors, my has historically been a source of shame and something to be hidden. Through a long and painful series of events, and the love of a woman I don’t deserve, I’m starting to come around to the realization that in general is an adult activity, and need not be stifled nor hidden away. So here is the tangled tale of how I got to be a non-playing (hopefully this series will see and end to that) wargamer. Read the rest of this entry »

More coding errors…

More things to remember:

  1. values you plan on returning should *not* be locally scoped.
  2. debug output is handy, just make sure all your code can generate output.
  3. encapsulation is great, but leave yourself at least a temporary way of getting at raw data.

Gotta love coding!

Always review your code…

I just spent the past day and a half at work fighting with a error. The function was performing correctly, it was just throwing an error.

Turns out the function it was calling didn’t actually return anything despite being defined as returning a number.

D’oh!
